  • Views of beautiful Lagoon Pond and Vineyard Haven Harbor
  • The calm shallow beaches of the VH harbor and Lagoon Pond
  • The MV Museum and the Alpaca Farm

A peaceful, relatively flat ride around Lagoon Pond, along the shaded and sun-dappled roads connecting Vineyard Haven, Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. There are bike paths for about 60% of the way. The tour goes on the moderately busy Barnes Rd, which has no bike paths, so is not for novice riders. However, there is an alternate route noted with more bike paths for novice riders Riders pass the excellent MV Museum, the MV Family Campground, the Alpaca Farm, the infamous roundabout, the Featherstone Art Gallery, the Sailing Camp, and the MV Hospital, as well as beautiful preserves and views. There are two excellent calm, shallow beaches on the Lagoon and Vineyard Haven harbor. A short part of the route, along the isthmus between the hospital and Vineyard Haven, can be difficult to ride against a strong headwind (which blows over 15 mph 80% of the year): for a NE wind, usually in the fall and winter, ride it as described; for a SW summer wind, ride it in reverse. Difficulty: Moderate Distance: 8.3 miles Elevation Gain: 121 ft Bike paths: 60%; (~95% alternate route described)
